On May 13, 2015, members of KidsZone and TeenZone gathered into Mainland High's auditorium to attend a special awards ceremony to commemorate the ending of yet another successful year. Students, dressed in their KZ/TZ apparel, were escorted to their seats by Mainland SGA members. The MHS Marching Band provided musical entertainment as schools were ushered in.
Mainland High principal, Dr. Cheryl Salerno provided a warm welcome to guests before Judi Winch and Tom Russell, Superintendent of VCS, pumped up the audience for the keynote speaker and special guest, the Honorable Governor Rick Scott.
Governor Scott uplifted and encouraged students to keep studying and to always remember that your options are limitless when you have an education. Governor Scott concluded his visit with the presenting of the Citizenship of the Year Awards to two students from each school. Students were selected by their sponsors and tutors for showcasing superlative social character throughout the 2014-2015 school year.
