My name is Catherine Williams and I feel very fortunate to have received assistance from FBH Community’s VCan program this past year.
My three children and I were deeply impacted by the devastating hurricanes in the fall of 2022 and found ourselves without a home. From September 2022 until February 2023, we lived in four different hotels which was very challenging with four of us living in one room.
I have always been a hard worker, starting my first job at 13 years old, and pride myself on taking care of my family. My oldest daughter, Maina, is a student at Florida State University. My teenage son takes online college courses and my teenage daughter attends Campbell Middle School.
Even with the help of FBH Community, I found myself struggling to make ends meet with low wages and the high cost of living. FBH Community is now helping me seek career advancement and better job opportunities through their Prosperity Program.
This holiday season my children and I will be together which is what is most important to us. My Christmas wish is for our home to have more furniture as we need a couch, a full-size bed, and basic household supplies that we lost during the storms and have not yet been able to replace.
I would like my children to have new clothing, they could all use them since we lost so much in the storms. I would like for the girls to have special beauty products like lotions, nail polish and perfumes to make them feel good and for my son to have some Xbox games.
I am grateful to FBH Community for helping my family when we needed it the most. This holiday season we will try to give back to others, too, to show our gratitude and appreciation for all that has been given to us.
