My name is Kelly Goodwin. My son, Elijah, recently started at Campbell Middle School, and as a single mother, I’ve been doing my best to make ends meet.
I was introduced to the FBH Community through the Florida Blue Healthy Initiative Program, and it has truly been a blessing for me and my family. Through the VCan program, I now receive a monthly food box along with fresh fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the Florida Blue Healthy Events have educated me about the impact of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity in our 32114 community.
I participate in quarterly screenings with Halifax Health, where I receive dietary guidance, healthy living support, and proper medical referrals. The programs also include cooking demonstrations and exercise protocols that will help families, adults, and children alike have fun, learn, and improve their overall wellness.
The FBH Community, through the Florida Blue Foundation grant, has opened an incredible window of opportunity for my family and our community. FBH has made a world of difference for us — not only do the food supplements ensure that I can feed my family, but the support from the staff and healthy events offer us a sense of community and encouragement.

Ms. Oatis is truly an angel. She has been a continuous source of support and assistance whenever I reach out, and she always checks in on us. My son is a member of the band program at Campbell, and I mentioned to Ms. Oatis that I was renting a flute for him. She was kind enough to connect us with a donor who is now providing him with an instrument, rent-free. Not having to pay an instrument rental fee will allow me to buy Christmas gifts for my teenage son.
We are blessed, and I am so grateful for the support we have received and continue to receive. Elijah’s wish for Christmas is to receive Nintendo Switch gift card, Lego sets, and Bath and Body Works (Cherry Blossom scent).
