My name is Jasmine Harris and my experience with the Food Brings Hope community has been nothing short of amazing. FBH is well-known in our community for supporting families and individuals who come every month for food, clothing and supplies.
Being a recipient of these services and volunteering at the community distributions has been a deeply fulfilling journey for me. I’ve always been passionate about helping those who lack access to basic necessities. Serving others is not just something I do — it’s a part of who I am.
I’ve only missed two FBH events, and when I do, it feels like something is missing. I truly look forward to these events every month. Through FBH, I’ve formed meaningful connections, shared smiles, and even prayed with people. Serving others, one person and one community at a time, is what FBH is all about — what LOVE is all about.
Inspired by FBH’s mission, I wanted to give back to those in need, especially in our 32114 area. My goal is to provide free clothing, shoes, diapers, wipes and gently used toys for mothers and children in need. This idea came from my own experience as a first-time mother, learning how difficult it can be to balance life and provide for my little one. I’ve always felt a strong desire to give back, especially since I’ve been blessed with the support I’ve received over the years.
I am raising my two daughters, Nova (1 ½) and Harmoni (6), to understand the importance of service and generosity. I don’t volunteer with FBH Community for the hours or to represent any organization — I do it because it’s in my heart.
Harmoni is currently in kindergarten at Palm Terrace Elementary in Daytona Beach, where we’ve recently moved. Normally, for the holidays, we travel to Atlanta to visit our family and village, but this year we will be staying in Daytona for Christmas. It will be a bit different, as we typically follow our holiday tradition of visiting family, wearing matching pajamas and opening presents. One of the homes we visit is extra special because Harmoni’s godfather is a police captain with 25 years of service, and we open gifts there the night before Christmas, as he works on Christmas Day.
Harmoni’s wish for Christmas is to receive a Barbie and Barbie Dollhouse, Bluey toy, Bluey series books, laptop, a desk and clothes (sizes 6 and up) and shoes (size 12.5/13). Nova is still a baby, so she doesn’t have a wish list. She needs clothes (size 18 months and up) and shoes (size 5C).
I am incredibly grateful for FBH’s ongoing support in our community. This is OUR community, and it takes all of us working together to make a difference. There is such a huge need, and we all have a role to play in meeting it.
